The normal body temperature of cats is higher than that of shovelers. The normal body temperature of cats is 38°C~39.5°C. The body temperature of kittens will be higher, and the body temperature of old cats will be slightly lower. When the indoor problem reaches 37°C, the cat owner will not be able to stand the heat, but the cat can still tolerate it, after all, its ancestors came from a hot and dry environment. Although the cat can bear it at 37°C, it will also feel the heat and start to dissipate heat in its own way (on the ground, in a cool position very early).
Once the indoor temperature is about the same as the body temperature of a cat (about 40°C), it will be as hot as a human being and will try its best to dissipate heat.
So how do cats dissipate heat in their own way?
When a cat's body feels hot, it will send a message to the brain that the body temperature is too high. After the brain receives the message, it will send a signal to the sweat glands in the body to sweat and dissipate heat, allowing the skin to cool down.
1. Cats cool down by grooming themselves
When the weather is hot, cats will comb their hair frequently. When licking the hair, the cat's saliva will remain on the hair. When the excessive saliva evaporates, it will also play a role in cooling down.
2. Cool down by sleeping and reducing activity
If it is a cat in the wild, it will find a cool and hidden place to sleep, and an indoor cat will find a cool place at home or sleep with its body fully stretched out, which can have a cooling effect.
3.
The cat's unique fur makes it warm in winter and cool in summerA cat's fur has 2 layers, a longer outer coat and a shorter undercoat which swells up during the winter to keep the cat warm. During the summer months, the undercoat thins so that air can circulate down to the skin, keeping the cat cool.
It's too hot, how to help cats cool down?
1. Turn on the air conditioner at home to cool down
If there is an air conditioner at home, you can turn on the air conditioner and set it at 25-26 degrees Celsius to lower the temperature. This temperature can make the cat feel comfortable.
2. Prepare enough water for cats
Sufficient water must be prepared for cats in hot summer, and cats should drink plenty of water to avoid other diseases caused by cats’ lack of water while cooling down. If you have the conditions at home, you can add a little ice cubes (not too much) to the water to make the water cooler.
5. Consider buying a pet cooling pad
There are many types of cooling pads or cooling beds designed to keep pets cool. If you don’t have a cool floor in your home, you can buy cooling pads, which will give your cat a cool place to lie down.
Tip: As cat owners, we should pay more attention to the weather forecast. If the forecast temperature is higher than 35°C, we should protect ourselves and cats from high temperature.
